Perfect Packaging

 Hey Bloggies!

This week in Mrs Davies maths, we were looking at nets and what shapes they make. On Monday we did a task of connecting nets to the shapes they made and on Tuesday we made boxes for lollies using nets. Mrs Davies had a bag with lollies that were wrapped in tinfoil in it, and we did a lucky dip to get the lollies we had to package. I got biscuits and a Carmello to create a presentation box for. Our boxes had to have a lid that closed, and they had to be made out of a net. I made a rectangular box with a rectangular lid to store my food in.

Here are the nets of my box:

It's The Last Term Of The Year!

Hey Bloggies!

What did you do in the holidays? I went skiing on Mount Hutt on the last Saturday with my mum and sister. it was quite windy but it was still really fun and a good day.

As it's the first week of term 4, we haven't done much so far but in maths on Tuesday, my class did tesselation. We had to answer the question of whether or not all triangles can tesselate and then make our own tesselations using a few shapes like squares, triangles and pentagons.

Here is my slide showing that all triangles can tesselate:

And here is my tesselation:

Have a good term everyone!

Manny The Monkey

 Hey Bloggies!

For literacy in the past couple of weeks, we have been writing children's books. we took inspiration from other writers like Lynley dodd and dr Seuss to come up with our own storyline and characters. after we came up with our idea, we started to form a script for the story. m story was about a character called many the monkey who gets stuck up a tree with his friends and they have to figure out how to get down safely.

Here's my story:

This is manny the monkey

Manny lives deep in the Amazon rainforest with his mum in a little tree hut.

Manny runs into the middle of the trees that he plays in and his friends are waiting for him there.

They played around in the low trees for a bit.

Manny decided he wanted to try something new and dangerous, so he climbs the tall tree.

“How are you going to get down?” asked his friends “I don’t know!” answered manny “Look out!”

“RAWRRRRRR” yells the gorilla. “AHHHHHHH” yells gemma, the first one of mannys many friends

as she scurries up the tree.

“HISSSSSSSSSS” says the snake. “AHHHHHHH” screams Greg, another one of mannys many

friends as he sprints up the tree, joining the other two.

“GRRRRRRRRR” growls the dog. “AHHHHHHHHH” yell millie and George, who are the last of

mannys many friends, as they scamper up the tree together.

“Oh no!” said manny. “How are we going to get down from this tall tree?”

“How about we  make a monkey chain and climb down the tree together” said gemma

“Great idea!” said manny and they started to look for a strong branch to hang off

“I found a strong branch!” yelled George

“Let’s start our chain now” said millie

“Greg should go first” decided manny. “He’s the strongest monkey here!”

“Great idea manny” said gemma as Greg started to hang from the branch.

“I’ll go next!” yelled gemma. “Then me!” squeaked George “Me next!” said milie excitedly. “I’ll go at

the end” laughed manny as he climbed over to the end of the chain.

“Let’s swing from this branch to the next tree so we can get down safely” said Greg. “Great idea!”

said the rest of them at the same time.

“3, 2, 1 GO!” they yelled together and swung to the tree.

“now we can easily drop down” said millie

They all dropped down from the tree together.

“We did it!” yelled manny.

“Goodbye!” they all said to each other as they started to run back home

I hope you enjoyed my story.

The Coin Drop Experiment

 Hey Bloggies!

For maths this week, my group was doing probability and today we did the coin drop game in pairs. what we did is we dropped a coin on a piece of paper 100 ties and had a busy tally how many times it hit the line and how many times it landed in a square. I did it with Zara and these were our scores:

As you can see, Zara got 10 out of 100 in the squares and 90 out of 100 on the lines and I got 9 out of 100 in the squares and 91 out of 100 on the lines. neither of us got too many in the squares but it was quite hard to do so I'm not surprised.

In The Mood For Murder

Hey Bloggies!

My literacy group has been doing genre studies lately and this week we did film noir. film noir is a genre from after ww2 in America main themes of film noir are murder, shady people, and detectives. One of our tasks was to create a film noir plot.
this is mine:

In the mood for murder

Setting: Rainy day, lots of traffic noise in the background, jazz music, dark alleys/streets, abandoned buildings

A rich CEO is found dead in the dining room of his mansion. suspected poisoning as the cause of death but no leads as to who did it. A P.I is put on the case but can't find anything. The family of the CEO gets another detective on the case and it is found that the first detective was the murderer but then the first detective kills the second detective.

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post.

All About The Southern Lights

Hey Bloggies!

For Matariki this year, we mixed it with the southern lights to make it more interesting. The southern lights are a natural phenomenon caused by little pieces of the sun called sun wid breaking through earths magnetic field into the atmosphere and exciting the oxygen and nitrogen particles, producing brightly coloured lights that seem to float in the sky. The southern lights (or aurora australis) appear in the south pole (the antarctic), whilst the northern lights (aurora borealis) appear in the north pole(the antarctic). For our art piece, we took a black piece of paper, ripped a bit of white goos paper to look like mountains, splattered a little bit of white paint to look like the stars, drew chalk pastel on the white paper, dragged it up to look like the lights and used a little bit of yellow paint mixed with white to paint the Matariki cluster.

Here's mine!

Did you learn something about the southern lights from this post?
